Overview
Pattex All-Purpose Silicone is a versatile, one-component acetoxy cure sealant designed for general-purpose sealing applications, both indoors and outdoors. It forms a durable, flexible, and waterproof joint that withstands weather, UV exposure, and normal movement.
Applications
-
Windows, doors, and skylights.
-
HVAC ductwork – sealing and insulating.
-
Guttering, downpipes, and piping systems.
-
Electrical connections and junction boxes for waterproofing.
-
Kitchen and bathroom fixtures: basins, bathtubs, and shower cabins.
How to Use
-
Prepare surfaces: ensure they’re clean, dry, grease-free, and dust-free.
-
Cut the cartridge tip and attach a nozzle. Apply sealant either in continuous beads or “waves”, depending on the joint.
-
Tooledge (tool) the sealant within about 5–10 minutes of application for a smooth finish.
-
For proper joint performance, design the bead with the correct width-to-depth ratio. For joints up to ~12 mm wide, a sealant depth of ~6 mm is suggested.
-
Remove masking tape right after tooling. Uncured silicone can be wiped off with a suitable solvent; cured sealant must be removed by mechanical means.
Storage & Handling
Store in a cool, dry place. Keep the cartridge sealed when not in use to prolong shelf life.
Limitations / Notes
-
As this is an acetoxy-cure silicone, it may emit acetic acid (vinegar smell) as it cures.
-
Not recommended for substrates that are sensitive to acid (some metals or electronics) — in those cases, a neutral-cure silicone may be more appropriate.
-
For very wide or deep joints, backer rods or bond-breaker tape are recommended to control joint shape and prevent three-sided adhesion.
